CIVIC THEATRE OF ALLENTOWN will be offering a Scene Study Workshop this Fall for adults 18+, an 8-week program designed to explore and hone acting and interactive scene study skills. Participants will be paired with partners, rehearse and work scenes in class with instructor Larry McCallister each week. A total of 3-4 scenes per person will be worked over the term of the class; the workshop will be a combination of assigned scenes and scenes chosen by actors with different pairings every scene. Participants will be expected to meet outside of class for rehearsal and work off-book for class presentation.

We are looking for actors committed to improving technique while exploring the space between character needs and actions in a variety of genres. A great opportunity to explore a range of characters and situations outside of full production rehearsals.

Class size will be limited to ensure meaningful work is done every week.

Whether you want to level up your actor's toolkit, conquer public speaking, or just spend two hours laughing, this six-week workshop is a fantastic place to start. We dive headfirst into the world of unscripted comedy in a completely warm, high-energy, and encouraging environment. No prior stage experience is required!

Together, we will look beyond basic "YES AND" to discover the exact mechanics that make an unscripted scene click. Through energetic exercises and group games, you will master how to make bold choices, listen with intent, and organically edit scenes as they happen. We focus on the underlying structure of what makes a moment funny, giving you the tools to spot patterns and transform a tiny spark of an idea into a hilarious, fully realized comedy set. This class is all about embracing the joy of experimentation and finding the fun in spontaneous storytelling.

The workshop culminates in week six with a live student showcase. It’s the ultimate finale where you and your classmates take the stage to perform a completely improvised set for an audience!

To ensure everyone gets plenty of stage time and personal coaching, capacity is limited. We require a minimum of 8 students to run, with a strict maximum of 14 spots available.

Classes run 7-9pm Tuesdays from Sept 15th to Oct 20th
